Configure Netgear M4250 series network switches for Milan and MSLI

This procedure assumes your switch is new or has been reset to factory default settings. To reset your switch to factory defaults, see Reset the switch to factory default settings in Netgear Audio Video User Manual AV Line of Fully Managed Switches M4250 Series

Procedure. To Configure Netgear M4250 series network switches for Milan and MSLI
  1. In Password type admin and leave Password blank, then click AV UI Login.

Disable power over Ethernet (PoE)
  1. In Power over Ethernet > PoE Interface Settings, toggle off the Enable PoE switch.

  2. Select Save.

Disable Auto-Trunk

  1. In Network Profiles, toggle the switch to disable Auto-Trunk

  2. Select Save.

Set up a Milan AVB VLAN:

  1. In Network Profiles > Configured Profiles, click the three dots, then select Edit.

  2. In Profile Name, enter a name for the VLAN.

  3. In Profile Configure > Profile Template, select Audio Video AVB.

  4. In VLAN IP Settings > Static, enter the VLAN IPv4 Address and Subnet Mask, then select APPLY.

Set a gPTP Grandmaster
(firmware 13.0.5.20 and later)

  1. In Network Profiles > Configured Profiles, click the three dots, then select Edit.

  2. Enter 8 in Clock Priority 1.

  3. Enter 8 in Clock Priority 2.

  4. Select Apply.

  5. Reboot the switch.

    Note

    By default, M4250 switches are set to a local priority of 248, and gPTP Grandmaster is assigned to the switch with the lowest MAC address.

    Important

    Only configure one switch as gPTP Grandmaster on each network.

Identify trunk ports

Trunks are used to distribute multiple VLANs between switches. For Netgear, each VLAN that is to be shared must be assigned the trunk port/s in the profile configuration page for that VLAN. T over a port indicates that it's a trunk.

Disable STP

  1. In Switching > STP, disable Spanning Tree Admin Mode.

  2. In Maintenance > Save Configuration, select Apply.

Enable MLD snooping

  1. In Switching > Multicast > MLD Snooping > Querier Configuration, enable Querier Admin Mode, then click Apply.

  2. In Switching > Multicast > MLD Snooping > Querier Configuration > Querier VLAN Configuration, check the VLAN and select Enable in Courier Election Participation Mode, then click Apply.

  3. In Maintenance > Save Configuration, select Apply.

  4. Reboot the switch.
