Release Notes — MAPP 3D


As PANTHER systems have been deployed, multiple users have reported that the rear rejection is significantly better than predicted in MAPP 3D, specifically in the low-frequency domain.
The engineering team at Meyer Sound has analyzed physical arrays with differing lengths to better understand the reports from the field.
As expected from previous systems, the on-axis response showed an exceptionally high agreement between MAPP 3D predictions and real-world measurements. However, from 150deg to 180deg off-axis, MAPP 3D predicted higher SPL values in lower frequencies than the real-world results.
From this research, the engineering team has updated the MAPP 3D loudspeaker file for PANTHER to replicate the behavior of an array. The predictions in MAPP 3D now correlate with the real-world measurements showing that PANTHER arrays of four or more units functionally create a cardioid polar pattern, which remains consistent at all SPL levels.
Note
Systems in MAPP 3D using less than four PANTHER loudspeakers, will show greater rear rejection in lower frequencies when compared to real-world measurements.

The loudspeaker systems must have the same starting configuration - for arrays, the quantity and model of loudspeakers must match
Select the desired loudspeakers, from the EDIT menu select GROUP, or CMD/CTRL + G. If the criteria match, common elements can be manipulated.
Arrays can have different splays or processor channels assigned when grouped, in which case the cell will report “Multiple”, if a setting is selected, it will be applied to all group members.
Section planes can be selected independently in the drop-down menu
Due to a software limitation, the loudspeaker center lines cannot be displayed when grouped and are turned off when a group is created
To ungroup, from the EDIT menu select GROUP, or CMD/CTRL + G
MAPP XT projects can now be opened in MAPP 3D
In the MAPP 3D FILES menu, select OPEN MAPP XT PROJECT – available for Projects saved from MAPP XT 1.2.0 and more recent due to a MAPP XT Project file format update
A new MAPP 3D Project will be created, and the MAPP XT Project data will be placed in the fields
Users will need to choose the units for the new Project
The orientation of the MAPP XT project must be selected – select XY PLANE for plan files, XZ PLANE for section files
If a DXF has been imported into the MAPP XT Project, the DXF can be imported into the MAPP 3D Project, prompted by the usual MAPP 3D DXF import dialog
The OPEN MAPP XT PROJECT dialog reads what units the drawing was imported in and displays it at the bottom - a MAPP 3D project can use different units than the drawing, this is why both dialogs ask for units, and different units may be entered
A new meshing method has been deployed – decreases Project file size, increases performance for Primitives
Added notification that informs users if the connection between a processor in MAPP 3D and a real or virtual GALAXY processor is lost
To end Free Draw, press “e” (no longer ESC for consistency with other functions where ESC exits the creation mode)
Close Free Draw shortcut remains “c”
Added temporary dialog to aid users when ESC is pressed during Free Draw that informs users of the above options, and includes an option to press ESC again to delete the current Free Draw – dialog will be removed in a future release
An anonymous crash monitoring and reporting tool has also been added. The HELP & USER INFORMATION dialog presents consent preferences. The listed user ID may also be transmitted by users to Technical Support for identification when reporting bugs.

Known issues

When 2D geometry is altered with the Trim modifier, EDIT & UNDO is not working correctly
After adding a Multi-Level Visual Aid (MLVA) with a Reference Position other than 0, 0, 0, changing the Distance, Elevation, or Width of any point and clicking APPLY will revert one or all the Reference Position values to zero. Workaround: update the Reference Position values once the P1, P2… values are updated, and click APPLY.
FILE & CLOSE PROJECT after Mirroring grouped Loudspeaker Systems causes the application to not respond
When copying and pasting grouped entities from one Project to another, when the entities are ungrouped in the destination Project and the Project is saved, then re-opened, errors occur.
When opening a Project saved in previous versions, Mirrored geometry set for Prediction may display the pressure plot erroneously. Workaround, 1) alter the X, Y, Z coordinates of the mirrored geometry and restore them, prediction works as expected, 2) toggle the Geometry’s Prediction selection, prediction works as expected.
After using the TRIM Modifier on two Geometries, EDIT & UNDO does not work correctly
When SELECT SNAPPING TOOL is selected/deselected from the contextual menu, the menu does not close as expected - click away from the menu to close it
Keyboard shortcuts to switch between main window tabs is not working, Ctrl/CMD + 1, 2, 3, 4

Copy / Paste now has a “Copy to Coordinates” function that will trigger a dialog where the user can enter the desired coordinates for the pasted object reference point, in reference to the copied object coordinates. cmd+shift+V, ctrl+shift+V, edit menu, or Model view right clic.
The Model Reference Point, or Origin, can be moved, a dialog is called from the “Tools” “Move Axis Reference Point” in the top bar or after a right clic in the Model View.The change is relative, for example, X: +2 will move the Axis Reference point 2 (units) on the X axis in the. + direction.With a right clic to a specific point, the dialog is automatically populated with the right relative offset.
Export Live Measurement Result Trace to ASCII, will export the Measurement Viewer Live Trace to an ASCII-formated *.txt file directly. This is called from a right clic in the Mesurement View tab, or from the “File” “Export” “Result Live Trace to ASCII” menu.
Tape Measure can now also snap to the surface center of a Geometry.

Known issues

Clicking in an open area of Model View, then selecting the MLVA will also update the coordinates listed in the Right Pane, Properties tab.
When the Reference Point of a Loudspeaker or a Flown Loudspeaker System is changed to any of the “Rear…” options in the Object Settings View, Reference Point menu, and remains so,
the Mirror Tool may position the mirrored Loudspeaker System incorrectly.

When a loudspeaker, loudspeaker system, or primitive is copied and pasted from another project, the name and attributes are now pasted correctly into the new project with names based on the next possible default name, i. e., Flown Loudspeaker value, Individual Loudspeaker value, etc.
Grouped loudspeakers now appear correctly when projects are loaded. Grouping a set of loudspeakers, then ungrouping results in the loudspeakers retaining their original values, and without the Z-value spontaneously changing.

The ULTRA-X20 model family is only available when the MAPP 3D computer is connected to the Internet.

Effective immediately all MAPP 3D users must upgrade to version 1.0.10. Previous versions of MAPP 3D will be deactivated. It has come to our attention that the factor of safety reporting in MAPP 3D has not been triggering the appropriate alerts to warn users of configurations with a safety rating less than 5:1.Any structural calculations performed under previous releases of MAPP 3D need to be recalculated using the new version 1.0.10. For features, enhancements, and bug fixes see the MAPP 3D Application Version 1.0.9 Release Notes below.

New Features

Rigging Safety Analysis has been added to MAPP 3D to provide more detailed information regarding the calculations for LEO, LYON, LEOPARD, and LINA Flown Loudspeaker Systems. With a given array configuration, you can choose an analysis type that indicates whether or not the desired array configuration will be OK to hang. When you insert a Flown Loudspeaker System, the rigging Factor Of Safety feature is enabled and analyzes the configuration as you add or subtract elements and change array angles. If the configuration exceeds the mechanical load limits, a warning is displayed in the edit loudspeaker system properties. Rated load capacities of the Meyer Sound rigging assembly for different splay angle settings are based on testing performed by an independent testing agency, and on safety limit analysis performed by an independent structural engineering firm. The ratings apply to the Meyer Sound rigging only. You are responsible for selecting the safety factor required by local law for your installation, and for determining the adequacy of supporting structure above the hook. PERMANENT INSTALLATIONS MUST BE CERTIFIED BY THE ENGINEER OF RECORD FOR WIND AND SEISMIC LOADING.

Known issues
When LMBC is applied and Elements Per Output selected is “2” and the selected Element Location is not set to “1”, the filters applied will be shifted and not match Compass
When microphones are copy/pasted, they are not listed in the inventory

macOS: If a project is open for more than three days, the attached DXF or SKP may not be saved with the Project – all other parameters will be saved. This issue is related to the amount of time the project has been open, not the amount of time since the Project was last saved
If a Project has been open for two days, save it, close the Project, and re-open it
